We were documenting the route of SARS-CoV-2 as it entered Uganda. Initially it arrived with international flights, when these were stopped it became clear that truckers coming in from neighboring countries were often infected with the virus. Eventually community transmission took over and and local spread in individuals who hadn’t travelled dominated the epidemic. It no longer mattered where the virus was coming from, it was already here.
